Strong Norwegian participation in the HVC-3 Call
The strategic partnership with the United Kingdom has resulted in four Norwegian companies receiving grants to develop advanced new technologies and new biotechnology products in collaboration with their British partners.
This is the first group of industrial cooperation between Norway and the United Kingdom on the basis of a five-year "Memorandum of Understanding" between Innovation Norway and TSB, which was signed in February 2011.
The Norwegian companies Marine Bioproducts, AquaBioTechnology, Micro A and Borregaard have all received high scores in a joint call organized by the British Technology Strategy Board (TSB) and Innovation Norway.
The projects have based on different sectors, but the common denominator is "high value chemicals."
Borregaard has developed one of the world's most advanced biorefineries for lignocellulose. They will cooperate with Unilever and Croda, two international market leader in the "personal care", about new products based the microfibers of cellulose.
Marine Bioproducts AS will test a new growth medium for industial fermentation processes based on marine raw materials in cooperation with the CPI, the national resource for scale-up of biotech processes in the UK.
Micro AS has developed a new reactor technology to cultivate microalgae. The new equipment will be tested in the production of a new bioactive ingredient in collaboration with the Scottish company Glycomar.
Aquabiotechnology AS shall cooperate with British Aquapharm about testing and market introduction of a cosmetic product based on bioprospecting.
